About Us

At lovespicyfood.com it would be easy to say we have a passion for all spicy food, but the truth is that this website was born out of our love for food in general.

In our families food plays a massive role and when we're not eating it, we are certainly planning the next meal or preparing it. So this is a culmination of many years, if not generations, of food enjoyment, exploration and interest.

I am from the West Indies where hot, spicy and seasoned foods are the norm - unless it is a ripe fruit, nothing is ever really left 'plain'! This area of the world is home to many cultures as well as a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. My mother was also very adventurous, so we were exposed to foods from all different cuisines. I then married into an English family whose food was more traditional and my style of cooking was considered far too exotic. My poor husband - our first meal together was my Mum's homemade chicken curry which, whilst he admitted it was delicious, also left him red in the face and sweating from the chilli heat! Fortunately his tolerance for chillies and spicy food in general has improved over the years. Which is more than I can say for my father-in-law who to this day still warns me not to mess with his Sunday lunch. Little does he know though just how many herbs/spices go into his leg of lamb or how much garlic he has actually consumed in his meal! The less said the better?? My mother-in-law however is quite willing to sample as many different food tastes as she can, but she does draw the line at the more 'exotic' dishes such as ducks' tongues in five-spice sauce :-) My parents are vegetarians and whilst Mum likes her food well-seasoned and chilli-hot, Dad prefers to have his milder, so he can add his own pickles, chutneys and chillies to taste.

So from such varied backgrounds and food tastes, lovespicyfood.com is an attempt to link all of these, to show the range and diversity of spicy foods which is available and to dispel the notion that spicy refers only to chilli-hot, savoury foods. We hope that all spicy food enthusiasts, from the novice to the well-initiated, will find something of interest here.
